Hilldale’s Jenna Morphis
Hilldale senior golfer Jenna Morphis has built her game on perseverance, faith, and a love for competing alongside her teammates.
Morphis, a 12th-grader at Hilldale High School, said her biggest inspiration comes from the people closest to her, coaches Kayla Morton and Oren Sikes, along with her parents. “They all push me to be the best I can be with love and support,” she said. That support system has helped her navigate the ups and downs of a demanding high school golf schedule.
On the course, Morphis leans on her favorite club, the driver, which she says is the one club she can “consistently hit favorably.” She has spent countless hours sharpening her short game, especially chipping and putting, areas she has focused on the most on improving her scores. Her career-low round is an 88, which she shot while playing for fun with her dad at Pryor Creek.
Morphis’ favorite course is Shangri-La, a challenging layout she enjoys not only for its test but also its scenery. “It is a tough course, but the scenery is very beautiful,” she said. She also looks up to LPGA star Nelly Korda, calling her “an amazing player” who “never gives up,” a mindset Morphis tries to mirror in her own game.
Away from competition, Morphis enjoys hanging out with friends, going to youth group, and playing pickleball. In the classroom, history stands out as her favorite subject, and she credits Mrs. Triggs as her favorite teacher from any grade.
Looking back on her athletic journey, Morphis said golf has shaped who she is and how she handles adversity. “Athletics has taught me to never give up, persevere in hard times, and have fun in the end,” she said. “Those are things I’ll carry with me long after high school.”
