Hilldale’s Sarah Chapa – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Groom Insurance Agency

Hilldale senior Sarah Chapa doesn’t have just one role model in her softball world-she has a whole team full. “I really love my teammates, and I see them as my role models. They’re what makes the game fun and they’re a big part of why I play softball,” said Chapa. “I like meeting new friends and being able to succeed with people you like and having fun on the ball field.” Sarah had a cousin that played that really sparked her interest in softball. “My cousin Addie Wolfe played softball, and I used to go with my aunt to watch her play whenever I could and that really inspired me to get started.” Sarah has been playing travel ball as well as school ball and for the last three years has enjoyed playing for Texas Glory. “I like travel ball because of my coach Jordan. He’s my best coach ever and is not only a good coach but a good friend and someone I can talk to and get good coaching advice from.” As a senior, Sarah understands her role in being a team leader. “You have to be someone that can be encouraging for your team even if you’re having a bad game yourself. With the younger players you have to be considerate and encouraging and be a good role model, remembering that you were once in their shoes.” Chapa generally hits clean up for the Hornets which she sees as a challenge. “Hitting fourth means a lot to me because it means coach trusts me to bring home the runners ahead of me and it’s a good place to hit because I get a chance to see what the opposing pitcher is throwing before I come up.” In her spare time Sarah says she really likes to listen to music with Frank Ocean being one of her favorite artists. She would like to play college softball if the opportunity presents itself and she has been talking with Southeast Arkansas College in Pine Bluff. She eventually wants to get a nursing degree and says, “I’d like to be remembered as a good leader, good hitter and good teammate after I graduate.”
