The Hilldale Hornet baseball team took another step towards making a return trip to the Class 4A state tournament this past weekend by winning the regional tournament, besting Checotah, Cleveland and Grove to advance to this week’s area tournament and running their record to 28-3 on the season.
“We’re obviously excited to get past the regional around and we’ve done everything we can to give ourselves the best chance to keep advancing. It’s a little stressful as you continue advancing but hopefully, we’ll bet a good ranking to ourselves a good chance to return to the state tournament because that’s the ultimate goal,” said Hornet coach Nathan Frisby.
The 16 remaining teams were ranked by a vote of the coaches and will play in eight area tournaments this week with the #1 seed taking on the #16 seed etc. The Hornets drew the #4 seed and will host 13th-seeded North Rock Creek (24-5) Thursday or Friday.
