This senior year has been all about making dreams come true for Hilldale senior cheerleader Alex Allison as you’ll see later in this story.

“My mom put me into cheer when I was in kindergarten. I’m not sure I wanted to do it but probably so since I had been doing some tumbling classes before that,” chuckled Allison. “I’ve been doing competitive cheer since sixth grade and am currently with Twist N Shout in Tulsa.”

This year’s highlights started last summer when the Hilldale cheer team attended camp and Allison made the All-American team which can perform at different parades around the country and her competitive team got to perform at ESPN in The Arena. As she started the school year, Alex had some goals in mind.

‘After missing state last year in the performance contest, I really wanted us to get back there this year. We added some difficulty to our routine we were doing and while it was a lot of hard work, we did qualify and placed eighth and probably should have done a little better, so it was worth it for me,” said Allison who is also in the National Honor Society and senior class vice president.

“Alex has been an extremely good leader for us this year and will be trying out for All State this year too,” said her coach Madison McMurtrey. “She always has a positive attitude and is a great model for our younger cheerleaders.”

Alex sees her role as a team leader as one of inclusion and instruction.

“I like to hear everyone’s opinion on things where we have an option like what outfit to wear to a game and things like that. I also want to make sure everyone knows the moves if we’re teaching a new dance routine.”

 And the final part of her dreams for her senior year?

“I’d always dreamed of representing cheer for homecoming and this year I not only go to do that, but I was also voted homecoming queen.”

After high school Alex plans to attend either NSU or OU and would like to cheer at OU.
