CASH SCHILLER

HILLDALE HIGH SCHOOL

by Nick Hampton

It may be hard to imagine now but junior Cash Schiller, who stands 5-10 and 260 pounds, had to beg to play football.

“When I was little my friends were all playing but my folks wouldn’t let me play so I finally begged enough that they let me play when I got to second grade,” laughed the Hornets big center and nose guard and a VYPE TOP 100 pick this year.

“He’s a big strong kid but is also pretty fast for his size which you don’t often see in a big kid,” said Hornet head coach David Blevins. “If he’s not around here working out, you know he’s at a camp making himself better. Cash will be one of our team leaders this year and he can be pretty verbal. If he thinks something isn’t up to standards during practice he’ll say, ‘let’s run in again, coach.”

In addition to his duties in the line, Schiller is also the Hornet’s place kicker and hit field goals of 43-, 46- and 53-yards last year. And with Hilldale having to do some rebuilding this year in the skill positions, that ability could be a difference maker.

“His ability to hit the long field goals will be a big help for us this year with our lack of experience on offense,” said Blevins.

Cash will also take on the punting duties for Hilldale this season meaning there will be few times that he won’t be on the field during a game. Outside of football, Cash does powerlifting where he finished second at state last year, plays on the golf team and throws the discus and shot put in track. He’s also the junior class president, in the Young Republicans club, Nike club and National Honor Society. In terms of leadership Cash says he can be vocal when needed but mostly just tries to be encouraging.

Though he likes scoring with his place kicking, the thing Cash Schiller likes the most about football?

“You can hit people with no consequences,” he laughed.
